Back to Basics: Washing your hair the right way.
Hair stylists agree, the most important part of maintaining beautiful hair is—Washing your hair. What? That’s too simple to be true! After all, you’ve been doing it all your life. But have you been washing the right way?
Many women don’t realize, but half the battle is cleaning your scalp. You’d be surprised how much gunk can easily sneak into your scalp. If you don’t give your scalp your utmost attention, you’re basically welcoming bacteria into your scalp, possibly causing inflammation, hair damage and even hair loss.
So how exactly should you clean your scalp?
Step 1. First things first—You need a good shampoo.
We recommend using sulfate-free shampoo for its mild detergent features. You don’t want to strip away all the moisture in your hair because it can overly dry your scalp.
Step 2. No scratching and do it twice if needed.
Instead of using your nails to scratch, use the balls of your fingers to massage your scalp. If you have heavy styling products in your hair, you should shampoo twice. The first round’s for removing all the products out of your hair, and the second round’s for cleaning your scalp.
Step 3. Rinse, rinse and rinse.
Don’t forget to thoroughly rinse everything out.
Step 4. Conditioner’s for the ends.
Follow up with a conditioner. Conditioners are for protecting the outside layer of your hair, so there’s no need to apply it on your scalp. Just apply it 3 inches away from your scalp to the tip of your strands.
Step 5. Rinse even more.
We can’t stress enough of this. Even after you think you’re done rinsing, rinse one more time. Some people think leaving a bit of conditioner is good for your hair because they think the ingredients will sink in better. That’s a complete myth! Shampoo and conditioner left in your hair just welcomes more bacteria build up. Get every bit of the products out of your hair to maintain clean, healthy hair.
