Animal prints are back in style. Are you ready to get wild?

Animal prints are back for fall 2018, ladies! Some fashion articles are calling it the Animal Print Revival, so get ready for a myriad of options for animal prints! Simply incorporate your favorite animal prints to stay on top of the trend this fall.

Personally, I would go for the classic leopard print; there are tons of great choices for this print. I've fallen in love with my two new pairs of leopard shoes and a scarf. Accessories like scarves give a sophisticated, timeless look and are the perfect accent for your outfit.

Going overboard with animal prints can look a little too ostentatious, so my advice for your autumn leopard trend is focusing on footwear. You're less likely to mismatch styles with footwear so you can stay on point without looking cheap with the right shoes. Also, if you are bored with plain, basket-style bags, or cotton tote bags, grab a shoulder clutch for a stylish accent.

Tops brands are already out with endless animal print options, so be bold and show your wild side!

Say, YES to avocado! It's not just for eating.

I would like to talk about the benefits of eating a certain, special superfood. Avocado!
Avocado is considered one of the top super food for a reason. Avocado is good for your skin, hair, and has many more benefits to health and beauty.

Avocado contains unsaturated oils that penetrate deep into the skin. This oil provides excellent nutrition to moisturize the hair.

Potassium, vitamins B, E, and K affect the emollient of your skin and hair, enhancing its moisture and softness.
This means what you consume and will affect your skin, so it’s important to
Avocado oil is known to smooth the skin and reduce wrinkles. Not only does it moisturize the hair, but it also contains a protein that is very beneficial. Avocado can be used in many ways and is more than just a superfood for consumption.
It's important to eat properly to maintain healthy skin.

I’ve listed a few DIY spa treatments you can try out at your own home!
You can have fun while pampering your skin with pure, rich ingredients. Natural ingredients provide the best nutrition for your hair and body.

 1. Avocado oil face mask
Mixture: Avocado, egg whites, and lemon juice

Avocado contains abundant omega-3 fat that strengthens the firmness and silkiness of the skin.
Egg whites contain the protein called albumin that tightens the pores. Albumin helps to firm the skin and act as an anti-aging booster.
Lemon contains a natural astringent that controls the oiliness of the skin so it can help skin to stay healthy while keeping it moisturized.

2. Deep hydrating face mask
Mixture: Avocado, honey, and yogurt

When the avocado oil is combined with honey, it acts as an antibacterial cream for the face. Not only that,  but you can add some yogurt and it to help reduce inflammation. This face mask can also open up the pores and tighten the skin as well.

3. Deep conditioning hair mask
Mixture: Avocado, egg yolk, and olive oil

Mix raw avocado, egg yolk, olive oil, and apply them directly to the hair. This combination of super-foods with rich nutrition will rejuvenate the hair like nothing else.

4. Citrus hand treatment serum
Mixture: Oats, and lemon juice

Mix oats and lemon juice for a cost-effective, natural serum with high-absorption to moisturize your hands and the added benefit of a fresh citrus scent.

The Pros and Cons of Blow-drying and Air-drying Hair

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that hair dryers use air and heat to dry wet hair.
Do you know the primary component of hair? It’s protein, just like an egg. Protein is very fragile to heat, that is, using excessive heat will result in moisture loss, dryness, and split-ends. This is why hair will begin to feel very hard and stiff after frequent blow-drying. Unfortunately, hardened, damaged hair will not be able to return to its original condition. I believe this is why many prefer to air-dry their hair because of the damage that blow-drying causes.

Yes, there are benefits to drying hair naturally, such as less damage, longer-lasting colors and perms, and saving time and energy. However, there are far greater negative consequences to air-drying hair.

1. Bacteria live on the scalp and hair, and they multiply in the wet conditions. So, if your hair stays wet for an extended period, then these living bacteria will begin to cause an unpleasant odor. EWW!

2. There are cuticles that coat and protect the surface of the hair. In a wet state, these cuticles begin to peel off, which causes split ends.  Also, when you lose these cuticles, the inner layers become exposed and emerge from inside the hair shaft. OH, MY!

3. When hair stays wet and cold, it leads to poor blood circulation and increases the chance of thinning hair. NOOO!

So, blow-drying slows down the spread of bacteria, keeping hair protected and coated with cuticles. The key is not to leave the hair wet for an extended period and reduce blow-drying time to reduce scalp and hair damage. The best way is to quickly towel-dry immediately after taking a shower to dry the moisture from the hair and scalp, thereby reducing the need for extended blow-drying.
I hope this helps everyone to understand the pros and cons of both methods. Yes, some hair types and styles require you to dry your hair naturally, but remember, the two key points are to towel-dry and use product to keep your hair healthy.

Think beautiful, Stay beautiful.

50 shades of red

Matte red-brown lip color is a hot new trend this season.  As some of you may have noticed,  ‘red’ has been trending for some time now.  But wait! There are, of course, 50 shades of red out there. Whats ‘in’ right now is a darker shade with a hint of brown. This gives it a deeper color, and the matte finish gives it a flawless look.

I went into a M•A•C store to find a color for myself, and ooh-la-la, each one of the lipsticks had a cute name like, ‘smoked almond,’ ‘toast and butter’ and so many more creative, catchy names. After trying on many colors (because that’s the best part of makeup shopping, right?) and giving it some thought, I finally decided to go with ‘brick dust.’ It’s an orange-ish brown matte finish lipstick with a sweet scent to it. I love that this color goes with so many looks. And the best part? You don’t have to break your wallet when you’re shopping at M•A•C. Ladies, don’t underestimate the power of red lipstick, there’s something about it that empowers us and gives us confidence.  So, grab one for yourself, and rock the world!

Leave-in hair cream by Rene Furterer

I was very excited the other day when I read an article in VOGUE JAPAN about a hair care product I love. The Rene Karite Overnight Care by Rene Furterer was discussed in the article, "Aftershower Hair Care Product to Nourish Beautiful Hair." Rene Furterer is a French brand that we use at Viange Hair Salon. This hair treatment cream is one product that we recommend to many of our customers.

It’s a moisturizing cream that is highly effective for dry hair. Out of many naturally based hair care products to choose from, Rene Karite Overnight Care is specifically designed to treat damaged, extremely dry hair. It's a leave-in cream so, there's no need to rinse it off.
After drying your hair with a towel, massage it gently over your entire scalp. Focus on the damaged areas especially, such as the tips of your hair.
There's no need to rinse off, so just let it dry before going to bed.
Super easy, right? And the results? Oh, man! My hair, from the roots to the tips, was so incredibly soft when I felt it in the morning.
You would think it might be too thick since there's a fair amount of shea butter mixed in, but surprisingly, it leaves no stickiness and adds no weight in your hair. My hair felt superb! It's definitely worth giving it a try.

How are you taking care of your hair?
I’d like to talk about a simple yet under-appreciated technique, brushing.

Our hair produces natural oil to keep it moisturized. However, even with the natural oil produced by the scalp, it does not moisturize the tips of your hair. Brushing properly on a daily basis helps to spread the natural oil evenly to every part of the hair. This can give a lustrous look with no added product. Who doesn’t want a naturally beautiful look without the hassle?

Also, brushing helps to massage the scalp, which improves the blood circulation.
Why is blood circulation so important for your scalp? Because it will help feed the scalp with more nutrients, which means better hair growth can be expected. Furthermore, brushing also removes the excess dirt and dandruff, while it also untangles your hair and cleans the split ends. I recommend using brushes made of nylon or plastic because they are easy to clean and are less likely to break.

If you haven’t been doing this, make the simple act of brushing daily a habit for natural, beautiful hair.

Nutrition Tips for Hair Growth

Today, let's talk about different food and ingredients that have a substantial impact on hair growth. There are three crucial nutrients for hair growth:

PROTEIN, which is the source for new hair growth.
ZINC, that uses protein to make the hair.
VITAMINS, to strengthen the scalp and hair.

Three must-have products to fight hard water.

If you’ve come from outside California or came back after traveling outside the state, you will notice how your hair and skin dry up quickly. The intense UV rays and the hard water cause dryness and stiffness due to the minerals sticking to your hair. We have to recognize and respond to these conditions and take better care of our skin and hair. Just as healthy crops thrive in rich soil, keeping your scalp healthy is the key to beautiful hair.

Both dryness and oiliness can damage the scalp and roots of your hair. Avoid washing too much if your hair gets too oily because you will wash away all your sebum, your skins protective oils so your scalp will begin to overproduce sebum in response. To keep your hair healthy, you need shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in hair serum. These three products are a must for healthy hair!

If you have oily hair, wash thoroughly to remove the excessive sebum first, then massage the leave-in serum in gently.  Remember, there’s no need to use too an overabundance of serum if your hair is already moisturized and healthy.  It may be difficult to judge what your hair needs at times, because the condition of your hair may change during different seasons. Be sure to consult with one of our experts to assist you with choosing which products suit your needs best to keep your hair healthy from the scalp to the tip of your hair.

Polka dot print for Spring/Summer 2018

With a long and celebrated history in fashion, classic polka dots are back in style this Spring and Summer.
It was easy to spot the line-up of beautiful, soft, floral prints in past Springs, but this Spring/Summer season will be a bit different! I found more polka dot than floral prints when I looked through the clothing lines in both retail and online stores.
As you can find in ELLE fashion magazine, an assortment of small to big, bold polka dots has been seen on many runways. Also, the ratio of monotone prints was much higher than colored dots. So, throw some black and white polka dots into your wardrobe to match your beach waves, up-dos, pixies, or whatever hairstyle you're feelin' for this Summer!

What you need to know about digital perms

Want to spice up your hair without the hassle of the curling iron? Then the digital perm is your new best friend. But first things first. What is a digital perm and how is it different from a regular perm?

The biggest difference between a digital perm and a regular perm is the use of heat vs. perming solution. A digital perm uses the power of heat to recompose the structure of your hair. Where as a regular perm, also known as a cold perm, uses perming solution. Each roller for a digital perm has electric heat running through it which helps your curls last longer, creating big beautiful curls like you'd get with a curling iron.

Once you get a digital perm, your morning styling's a breeze. Just twist your hair with your fingers as you blow dry and you're done.

Of course, treating your hair after any perm is going to be super important. Make sure you consult your hairstylist for the right type of products to use after your perm.

Benefits of a scalp massage. Treat your hair from the roots up.

Did you know that blood circulation plays an important role in healthy, beautiful hair? Smooth blood flow in your body brings a nice flow of nutrients to your scalp. Things like stress can slow down blood circulation. It closes off vital nutrient passages to your scalp and eventually weakens the roots of your hair.

That's why we have head spa menus at our salon along with an array of scalp massage products you can use at home. If you get one of our head spa services at the salon, our stylists will not only give you an amazing massage, but will also give you tips and tricks on how to massage your scalp at home. So, the next time you're here, give your scalp a little extra love.

3 ways to bring back hair volume

Did you know that we humans have an average of 100,000 hair strands? We know it sometimes doesn’t feel like it. If we have all that hair, where did the volume go?

3 Reasons why your hair’s losing its volume:

1.     External Damage: UV rays, straighteners, perms, coloring, … No matter how much you protect your hair, each strand gets weaker with time.

2.     Blood Circulation: When you have bad circulation in your body, the proper nutrition never reaches you hair leading to all kinds of problems. Blood circulation is usually caused by bad eating habits, lack of sleep, stress and smoking.

3.     Lack of estrogen: Estrogen is a hormone that helps strengthen and thicken your hair. With age, estrogen slowly starts to decrease making your hair weaker.

So, what should you do?

3 ways to bring back volume:

1.     Stimulate blood circulation: Try massaging your scalp when you wash your hair. Take your 5 fingers and slowly push down on your scalp a couple of times. This easy trick will promote blood circulation — and it feels amazing.

2.     Choose the right shampoo
Sulfates are overly harsh detergents that ultimately damage your hair in the long run. Sulfates go by the names of Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). Avoid them. These chemicals are too strong for your hair stripping essential oils your hair needs to stay healthy. It also breaks down protein and may lead to the prevention of hair growth. We recommend going for the amino acid shampoos which are gentler on your scalp. Come to our salon and we’ve got a whole line of hair products beneficial for hair volume.

3.     Blow dry your hair
Avoid air drying your hair. This welcomes bacteria in your hair. After you get out of the shower, make sure you dry your hair thoroughly with a towel and dryer. When blow drying, apply the air in the opposite direction of where your hair’s growing. Once your hair is dry, bring it back to its natural direction — a little hack to create volume and shine.
