I would like to talk about something that many people tend to forget when it comes to keeping their hair healthy. If you want beautiful hair, it is crucial to maintain a healthy scalp. Let me point out three key factors to determine the healthiness of your scalp.

Healthy Scalp Skin Tone – Healthy scalps have a bluish-white, clear skin tone. There are some symptoms to be aware of that warn of an unhealthy scalp. Unhealthy scalps tend to have a yellowish hue due to the oxidation of sebum on the scalp. This could cause an unpleasant odor and/or oiliness.  If your scalp has poor blood circulation due to clogged pores in the scalp, your hair will not be able to receive the proper nutrition it needs, which will lead to little or no hair growth.

Texture of a Healthy Scalp – Another symptom you want to look out for is a hardening of the scalp caused by poor blood flow. There are countless causes for scalp hardening, but I want to list a few specific ones here. Insomnia, muscular tension, nervousness, poor circulation, and eye-straining. Scalp hardening could also be a symptom of body exhaustion. 

Healthy Pores – To avoid damaging your hair, it’s important to use special products designed to nourish and strengthen both your hair and scalp on a regular basis. I would hate to be the one to break the news to Ariana Grande, but according to NY Fashion Week Fall 2019, the style is dead. Besides the models showing off their flawless low ponytails on many runways,  Camila Cabello appeared on the red carpet with an elegant low pony and cute fringe bangs for the 2019 Grammy Award.

One contemporary fashion designer, Bobby Abley, showcased this pop culture gaming icon in a playful and creative way that only this fashion magician himself could execute.

I feel so proud that such a massive cultural phenomenon originated from my home county. I love how Japan’s video game and anime culture has gone beyond its original intent even to impact fashion and achieve global recognition. Creativity truly has no boundaries or borders. 

This may be a peculiar fashion design for some, but check out their unique style for an inspiration to help you think outside the box. Who knows, you may want to collect ‘em all!

Don't dry up this Winter.

I saw two interesting headlines recently that caught my attention;

"People Prefer Someone With Soft Skin" and "Touching Soft Objects Lowers Blood Pressure." I remember in Japan, the term “marshmallow body” was a common phrase used in many beauty articles for promoting the ideal feminine body and soft, translucent skin.

Soooo, I looked into what is considered ideal, beautiful, soft skin and how to maintain it. I found that people determined beautiful skin by its flawless appearance and moisture. Moisturizing only the surface of the skin isn't enough. It’s crucial to also moisturize deep in the stratum corneum, the deeper layers of skin because that’s what will make your skin feel ultra soft. You can maintain the skin’s tightness, smoothness, and softness when the stratum corneum contains a sufficient amount of moisture. After all, the key is to moisturize thoroughly to firm the skin!

So, how does dry skin occur? The skin on your face contains a combination of sebum, a natural moisturizing factor (NMF), and keratinocyte lipids. The ratio for these three is 2~3% sebum, 17~18% NMF, and about 80% inter-cellular lipids. Your skin drys out when these three things in the stratum corneum are not maintained at their necessary levels.

The benefits of moisturized skin aren’t just that it feels good, and is soft to the touch, but having moisturized skin also helps prevent breakouts from acne. Let’s stay extra conscious in the pursuit of baby soft, moisturized, firm skin during this dry, winter season.
