Tis the season for Perms! What you need to know before you get one.

The Perm Comeback:
Spring time is just around the corner! With a new season comes a new hairstyle and now’s your time to show off the texture in your hair. It’s true. The perm is making a comeback—with a modern twist. Now it’s all about the “undone” loose curls. The modern woman wears texture with effortless elegance. Match it with a light hair color or a maybe even a pastel color and you’re the new Fashionista on your block. Styling’s a breeze. Just apply a leave-in treatment or a styling fluid/cream and you’re good to go.

Perm 101—What you need to know before you get a perm:
When you do decide to get a perm, you need to be extra conscious about treating your hair right. Let’s go over some perm basics. (Don’t worry. We’re not going to scare anyone with Chemistry terms)

Each hair strand is made of lots and lots of fibers, connected by strong bonds. When you perm your hair, you’re basically restructuring your hair strands by breaking these bonds, freeing them and re-bonding them to lock the wave in place.

There’s no secret. Hair damage is inevitable when it comes to perms. This is why quality hair treatment is so important. Make sure you get proper salon treatment on the day you get your perm. And don’t forget to take care of your hair at home with masks or leave-in treatments. At Viange Hair, we use products that bring long-lasting curls minimizing the damage to your hair. Here are our top product recommendations for perm hair:

RENE FURTERER ABSOLUE

MILBON
LUMINOUS BODIFYING OIL & RESTORATIVE BLOWOUT PRIMER

With properly treated hair, you’ll have luminous waves lasting 2-3 months. So there you go! Now you know the facts and you’re ready to rock this spring with beautiful chic waves.

Want easy-to-manage hair but still look on-trend? Trying to avoid that awkward in-between phase from short to long? You’re a perfect match for the Lob!

A Lob is short for “Long Bob”. It’s typically shoulder length or 1-2 inches below your shoulder, so you can wear it up or down loose depending on how you feel. You can also arrange your Lob to incorporate layers or asymmetrical blunt cuts to match your style.

Versatility—No wonder it’s so popular among many women. Talk to your stylist today and step into the wonderful world of Lobs.

What’s better? Silicone vs. Silicone-Free Shampoo

What exactly is silicone? Why does it matter for your hair? Ponder no longer, as we explain silicone in the simplest and easiest way possible.

What is silicone:
Silicone is a synthetic ingredient that coats your hair, usually used in shampoos to make your hair smoother and shinier. Seems like the best invention in the world? Not so fast. There’s a downside. Silicone tends to stick to your hair when used continuously and creates a sort of a fake cuticle. So your hair may “look” shiny and smooth, but on the inside, it may be super damaged. Yeah, take a second to digest that.

What is silicone-free:
On the other hand, when you use silicone-free shampoo, your hair may feel squeaky at first. But as you continue to use it for a long period of time, you’re able to regain the natural beauty of your hair.

It’s hard to decipher which one’s better, but if you want to get your hair’s natural beauty back, we recommend using silicone-free shampoo.

At Viange Hair, we use Rene for silicone-free shampoo and MILBON for silicone shampoo. Ask your hair stylist for more advice on which one’s best for you!

* We explained silicone in the easiest way possible but it’s a rather complex topic to talk about. When we used the word “silicone” in this blog post, we’re referring to silicone oil. There are various types of silicones out there and there are ones that won’t stick to your hair. So, stay tuned for our future blog post for in-depth information about the different types of silicone!
